The Amur tiger is distinguished from other types of the family with larger sizes. Characteristic bright coloring, dense and long wool, a powerful body – these signs allow this proud animal to adapt to life in severe conditions of Primorsky Krai. However already long time the Amur tiger is threatened by the dangers putting it on an extinction side.
According to the estimates of experts, today population of the Amur tiger makes a little more than three hundred individuals. The tiger mainly lives in cedar forests of Sikhote-Alin. The animal transfers sharp temperature drops within a year well. In several years when borders with China actually opened, original hunting on unique a predator began. Both local, and alien hunters chased skins of taiga handsome, hoping to grow rich quickly. By the end of last century the number of tigers, thus, was sharply reduced. Concerned by a situation, ecologists and animal activists sounded the alarm. The project on protection of the Amur tiger against extinction was carried out. For studying behavior of an animal under natural conditions began to use radio collars that allowed to control movements of tigers and to estimate their habits. The Amur tiger is in the created national parks and reserves under the state protection now, and here in other territory the predator is defenseless against poachers. One more factor having negative effect on the number of population of animals – economic activity of the person. Laying of pipelines, cutting of a cedar forest drive a tiger from the places chosen by it, forcing to follow the potential production moving to other places. For life the Amur tiger needs extensive hunting grounds therefore destruction of habitual habitats represents the main source of danger to population. It is necessary to look for a solution not on local, and at the state level.
