Because of considerable reduction of volumes of food and long cold weather in the forest during winter it is necessary animals not easy. That is why many of them begin to prepare for this time since early fall, and some – even in the summer. And only certain wild animals safely meet winter without preparation.
1. Before everything rodents begin to prepare for cold weather: chipmunks, mice, gophers, groundhogs, polecats and others. Even in the summer they collect reserves of grains and nutlets on all wood and postpone in storerooms of the holes. It allows them to worry quietly winter, without leaning out outside. Practically they carry out all winter quarters in hibernation and interrupt these quiet studies only behind that being supported. If stocks is in plenty, and no predators will disturb them, rodents will quietly endure even the most hard frosts.
2. The beavers living families cost to themselves hatka from branches near reservoirs in advance. They warm the lodge a moss and silt, and do an entrance to it under water. Near the house they put the winter livelihood – branches of trees. Besides them, beavers eat roots of water plants. Proteins also do not fall into hibernation though during cold weather spend a lot of time in the hollow which they build in trees or in the become empty nests of birds. For winter of protein reserves mushrooms, acorns, nutlets and hides them at roots of trees or stubs. And still this rodent changes the fur coat from red for greyish – for masking.
3. In advance the dwelling and bears equip. They suit a den in natural caves, ravines or deepenings at roots of trees in which train branches, a grass, a moss, and then dim everything fluffy fir-tree branches. The dropped-out snow serves a bear kind service – it perfectly masks a den and keeps in it relative heat. Unlike rodents, this animal does not stock some food, however he begins to eat much with approach of fall to save up a large amount of fat for winter. Then he will be able quietly to oversleep till spring.
4. Hares, foxes and wolves practically do not prepare for winter, they walk it in search of food. Slanting, however, in advance change a fur coat with sulfur for white to be less noticeable on snow. And fur of a fox and wolf though keeps the color, but at the same time becomes more dense and fluffy. Sly foxes use any free holes to take rest or hide from danger, and wolves gather in packs – so to them easier to survive during a cold winter time.
