The mention of the cats almost completely deprived of wool occurs in ancient Egyptian manuscripts. However since those times the breed almost completely disappeared.

Signs of breed
General characteristics of breed consider lack of wool and a small down on skin which when stroking a cat reminds to the touch suede. Naked cats have rotundity of forms even in joints. Their movements are full of a peculiar luxury. The ears which are spread wide in different directions are similar to wings of a butterfly. At breed "sphinx" always the rounded-off tips of ears. Many owners of sphinxes claim that naked cats possess a mystical look. The Canadian cats sphinxes can have a little wool in a nose, on paws and on the back surface of ears. The long thin tail is turned off as any cat of other breeds will not be able to wrap the tail. One more difference of a sphinx – an unwinking gaze which the cat will never take away the first. This extraordinary friendly animal who approaches all family members and other animals living in the house. Cats sphinxes do not love the conflicts, for this purpose they are too wise.
