At fishes boars the body is strongly compressed from sides and is covered with small solid scales. Their distinctive feature - the large "armored" head with the extended snout reminding the pork patch. The head is covered with strong bones and kind of an ischerchena deep furrows.

The close relative of a pentatser of Richardson — a pentatser Japanese (Pentaceros japonicus) meets at depths from 100 to 600 meters in the western part of the Pacific Ocean from Japan to Australia and New Zealand. The Japanese pentatser growing to 25 centimeters in length is also considered a food fish. The largest representative of family of veprevy — huge boarfish (Paristiopterus labiosus) lives on the continental shelf of Australia and New Zealand. This representative of family of fishes boars can reach 100 centimeters in length. Approximately in the same region, at the southern coast of Australia in trawling catches the trekhpolosy fish boar (Pentaceropsis recurvirostris) up to 70 centimeters long quite often comes across. This fish has a big prickly back fin from 10-11 by thorns and the doubled tail.
