1. Before beginning to graze deer, learn about them as much as possible. For example, the fact that food addictions of deer were ground in the millennia is of great importance and it is impossible to change them suddenly. In this regard routes of deer are predictable: in the summer they, escaping from midges, leave to the coast of the ocean and eat mushrooms, berries, the Alpine herbs, and return to northern forests, to pastures of a reindeer lichen and moss in the winter. Such migration circle makes sometimes more than 500 km, and pasturage of deer during different seasons has the differences.
2. For a start learn to operate one deer, it is required to you to manage to return the escaped animal to herd. Further observe behavior of deer in small group and try to overtake it from one place on another.
3. You watch behavior of deer depending on in what part of herd they are located. Turning or transferring herd to the next pasture, try not to interrupt feeding process, it is not necessary to force down them in dense weight. The dog will be the good assistant in it to you.
4. In hot season you find more cool places, and during spring floods – high hills. That deer did not run up, you need to seize art of "twisting" of herd. Besides, it is important to distribute deer on a pasture evenly that everyone could find for itself(himself) enough food.
5. In free time find the flat place and train in art of possession of a leather lasso. You have to be able to catch the most obstinate deer at any time. Try to remember each deer "in the face". It is necessary to be able to count precisely quantity of deer, and without improvised devices – directly in the field.
6. In the early spring together with other shepherds take away herd on sorting (koralization). Here will do to deer vaccination, will take blood on analyses, will carry out measurements, will brand young growth, castrate a part of males, will kill weak animals on meat. To save newborns olenit, at once it is necessary to separate them and to hold further separately.
