Big eyes in the form of hemispheres are located the heads of a butterfly on each side. Scientists established that these insects distinguish the moving and close located objects better. And here instead of the motionless elements which are in the distance they see only indistinct silhouettes.

1. An eye of a butterfly in itself is a unique structure, a peculiar association of a set of small eyes facets. On average, one eye of a butterfly contains 17355 facets, but there are insects at whom this number reaches 60000. The majority of butterflies has also simple eyes which are located behind short moustaches.
2. At moths of only 1300 facets. Such small amount is explained by the fact that the sight is less important for them. In space the moths are guided by means of the short moustaches playing a role of sensors of orientation. If at a moth to remove short moustaches, then it will not be able to bend around obstacles. However moths distinguish light well, and fly to it − the moths flitting around lamps and lamps are to that a peculiar proof.
3. Such structure of an eye leads to the fact that the butterfly sees the whole world not equal, smooth, but kind of laid out in the form of a mosaic. Scientists proved interesting feature of this species of insects: it appears, at butterflies of the sort Heliconius color of wings is directly connected with the fact that insects are capable to distinguish ultra-violet waves. On wings of these butterflies there are small yellow specks. They either absorb, or do not absorb ultraviolet – depending on presence of a certain gene at a butterfly. And on these specks as scientists assume, butterflies are capable to separate one type from another to meet an individual some kind of for reproduction.
4. In general the sight and reproduction at butterflies is connected directly. The male when waves wings, entices a female as the pattern of his wings develops in her eyes in the attracting mosaic. Thus, the female of a butterfly is exposed in fact to hypnosis from a male.
5. The sight, of course, is important for butterflies, but at all not as for the person. The butterfly is almost not able to define distance to a subject as these insects are extremely short-sighted by eyes. However this moment with success is compensated by what butterflies are capable to see of 360 degrees around themselves, and both in vertical, and in the horizontal plane. Unlike other insects, they perceive also red shades.
