This animal is called still the demon of the North, a skunsovy or damned bear. And it is only about a glutton – the small mammal pokhozhiy on a little bear. However the first impression can be deceptive as this representative of predatory family is one of the most furious and wild inhabitants of the forest-tundra and a taiga.
Glutton – an animal furious!
Really, the glutton is the most furious and terrible hunter from family marten. From time immemorial people hunted gluttons, caught them, pushing aside in the solitude, including them very dangerous animals. It should be noted that the bases for this purpose were quite sufficient: these animals often lifted up a livestock, and sometimes attacked also people. Such destruction of gluttons led to the fact that now these predators meet generally in the Siberian taiga, in the Canadian forests and on Alaska. Despite the distribution, these animals do not form any dense populations therefore it is very difficult to meet them even in their native places. The modern zoology describes only two species of gluttons so far – European and North American.
How does this predator look?Gluttons not for nothing have terrible reputation. These animals, really, remind little bears with fluffy tails. Length of an adult individual does not exceed and 1 m, and weight is equal to 17 kg. A trunk at gluttons clumsy and stocky. Hind legs are longer than lobbies, because of it the back of a predator is dugoobrazno bent up. The head of a glutton large, and a muzzle – extended. The tail is not too long, but fluffy. Strike also peculiar a foot of legs of a glutton: they are disproportionately big and have special membranes. It allows gluttons long and to run skillfully on deep and friable snow, without failing in it. These predators possess the powerful teeth having sharp sides. Claws on paws at gluttons big also have the hook-shaped form. The clubfoot of gluttons is explained by the fact that these animals are plantigrade, i.e. leaning during the movement on all foot. However it does not prevent gluttons to climb trees enough dexterously. Hair of gluttons dense, rough and long. Color of fur varies from brown to black-brown. It is quite often possible to see how on all length of a trunk and on a forehead of an animal there pass golden or yellowish strips. They are features of their wool. It is curious that in winter time glutton fur never freezes together.
Glutton – an animal with character!
Character at these animals impudent, but at the same time careful. They avoid the places occupied by people and come for hunting, mostly, in twilight. In the afternoon the majority of gluttons take refuge in the dens under roots of trees or in crevices of rocks. These animals carry out the lion's share of the time alone, protecting borders of the possession from other relatives. If any male of a glutton came into others possession, then between the owner and the stranger the fight to the death is started. Fortunately, it happens very seldom. It is curious that even own cubs are forbidden to remain within parental possession more than two years. Otherwise they risk to be eaten.
