It is considered to be that unicorns are fictional fantastic animals. However among all variety of types of living beings on the planet Earth is such individuals who are called as unicorns. However, unlike mythical characters, the real unicorns are the water mammals known in science under the name of narval.
Dug is a mammal animal who belongs to family and group of narvalovy. As for appearance, length of a body of adult individuals reaches the sizes to 5 meters, and cubs are born length about 1-1.5 meters. Males have the mass of a trunk of 1.5 tons, and the third part of weight are fat deposits. Females of narval weigh 900 kilograms. Animals have round shape of the head with an outgrowth in the form of a hillock. Appearance of a narvala can remind white whales.
Distinctive feature of males is existence of one tusk which is continuation of one of two teeth. This tusk can remind a horn therefore narval and call unicorns. Length of a tusk of a male can be 2-3 meters. Females have also two teeth, however any of them does not grow to such sizes, them it is almost not visible.
Narvavlov it is possible to meet only in ice waters at the edges of the Arctic ices - for example, at coast of Greenland, at Franz Josef Land, in waters near Spitsbergen and also at islands of Novaya Zemlya. But animals are capable to seasonal movements which depend on movement of ices, that is in the winter in the direction of the South, and in the summer – in the direction of the North.
The main food of narval are mollusks, but the use as food of Crustacea and fish is not excluded. To get food, mammals plunge on depth to one kilometer and are capable to spend long time there.
Narval, as well as at all animals, have enemies. In this case are polar bears and falcated ducks. But can be threat for cubs as well sharks.
The mankind over the years learned to apply fat of narval as lubricant to lamps, and guts of animals served for production of ropes earlier.
