At the night of a mumps usually sleep therefore it is much more convenient to support them, than hamsters who have an active life at night.

There is a set of breeds of these animals from bald to long-haired. It is necessary will decide on breed, or to visit several pet-shops and to look at the guinea pigs who are available there. But it is better to buy a same-sex couple of guinea pigs as unlike hamsters alone these animals miss.

Guinea pigs live in cages, however they very much love walks on the apartment. The main thing not to leave animals unguarded. And during good weather it is possible to build the small shelter in a garden and to let out a pig to walk there. It is better to build the shelter in a shadow. The pet will have a rest from a cage, ""will warm up pads"" and will regale on a fresh grass.

Breast-bands and leads cannot be applied to guinea pigs. In case of need somewhere to transport a mumps, it is necessary to use special carrying, also carrying will be suitable for cats.

Choice of a cage

Pets need a spacious cage from 40 cm high that animals could get up on back pads, and a floor has to have the minimum size of 80 x 60 cm. It is possible to make a cage independently or to buy in pet-shop and also to order in online store.

For a laying use large sawdust, shaving or the granulated sawdust for a cat's tray. If it is planned to use wood filler, then from above it is possible to lay PVC rugs, otherwise pads from firm granules can hurt an animal. PVC rugs as a flooring are approved by veterinarians, the main thing that under it was sawdust or filler. Also to mozhnostirat such rugs in the washing machine. It is necessary to change a laying 1-2 times a week.

In a cage it is necessary to buy:

  • automatic drinking bowl (if you took two pigs – better to buy two drinking bowls);
  • heavy bowl for a forage that the mumps did not overturn a feeding trough;
  • sennik;
  • hammock for a guinea pig;

It is better to exclude a lodge, instead of it the hammock or a special pipe remarkably will approach. It will allow to tame quicker a pig as she will not hide in a lodge quicker will get used to people.

The cage needs to be put to such place in the house where there will be no drafts, and the mumps will not freeze. Optimum temperature for it 20-22 °C.

Forage and delicacies

Basis of a diet of a mumps is hay – about 80% of a daily diet. It can be prepared independently or to get in specialized shops.

On the second place - a grain forage which is on sale in pet-shops.

It is also necessary to give to animals a juicy forage: vegetables and fruit, excepting a citrus. Pigs very much love carrots, apples, salad, cucumbers and other.

In the summer, except the above-mentioned, it is possible to give to guinea pigs the fresh washed-up grass, and it is possible to couch oats in the winter.
