Elephants live long. Or there is so much how many will carry. Long life of the biggest mammals living on Earth depends sometimes on many small factors: weather conditions, prosperity of food, safety of herd and wisdom of the elephant cow operating this herd.
Paradoxically, but elephant life, as well as its duration, is very similar to human. Under favorable conditions, in an environment of the big, loving, careful family, under the leadership of the most senior grandmother the life of elephants proceeds rather quietly and long – up to 60-70 years. Elephants are gregarious animals. Having been born after 20-22 monthly stay in a maternal womb, the 120th kilogram elephant calf very quickly becomes independent, but he, of course, is not capable to take care of himself at all. Until the kid grows up and properly will not learn to use the most terrible weapon – a trunk, - it tempting production for predators: lions, tigers and jaguars. And still elephant calves are very curious, like to be naughty and run away, having been fond of the games.

In a fuse they can pursue other animals and get lost or hide in the swamp, or, being capricious, not to want to leave water, and there can be venomous snakes. To follow the kid, especially if it is not one kid, and several, one elephant cow cannot do, but "aunts" - already grown up elephant cows who can be both relatives, and just neighbors come to the rescue here. They look for elephant calves, expel from water, clean from silt. To how many "aunts" adult giants are obliged by life? Very much. And they remember all of them because at elephants fine memory. Especially on good, as at all conceiving beings.
Giants of kindnessElephants very faithful and emotional animals. They are able to laugh! And to cry. To be sad when say goodbye to the fellows. The elephant calves who grew up, found independence, even left herd, will always help younger, will stretch to the aid the trunk. And when time will come, will bury that elephant which will leave to die. Elephants never leave barefaced the died fellows: they cover them with earth and cover with branches. By the way, a ceremony of a funeral if it is necessary, they make not only for fellows. If because of self-defense they kill the opponent, for example, who attacked a lion elephant calf, they will bury also a lion.
So how many there live elephants?
In general, life expectancy of an elephant depends on safety of his teeth. During life at these giants six sets of four molars are replaced. Last time teeth change approximately in forty years and then gradually begin to collapse. By seventy years it becomes heavy to elephant to chew food and therefore the majority of elephants die most often of hunger. But it is free. At appropriate care, elephants sometimes live in bondage longer. The case when the elephant lived up to 83 years is known. This long-liver was called Lin Wang, he lived in Taiwan and was the veteran of the Chinese-Japanese war of 1937-1945, and died in 2003.
Residents of Thailand claim that their elephant by the name of Somrak is much more senior and is still alive. The trainer Somraka is sure that his ward is about 115 years old.
So, if the elephant calf does not die in the childhood if throughout life he is able to endure two-three long droughts if he is able to extract every day to himself on livelihood about six hundred kilograms of different greens and about hundred liters of water if he is not killed by poachers – tusks hunters, - that the elephant can live long and very happily.
