Instruction
1. Begin to be engaged in cultivation of pigeons from studying a theoretical basis. Decide on what breed you will part. It is better not to begin with brevirostrate breeds and not to take on content more than 5-6 couples.
2. Prepare necessary stock and the equipment. First of all, you need the room for keeping of pigeons. The dovecot can be constructed of a brick, a tree or metal. It has to be rather spacious, light, without drafts. It is better to make indoors 2 offices, for adult birds and for young people. Doors have to be about 150 cm high, up to 70 cm wide. They can be made double: external continuous, and internal trellised. Make a floor of struganny boards, having raised it on 25 cm from the earth to avoid dampness. Height of a dovecot has to be about 2 meters.
3. Get acquainted with a diet of pigeons and buy a necessary forage. You remember maintenance of vitamin and mineral balance in food of birds. Pigeons cannot be overfed therefore at the onset of cold weather increase quantity of a forage, and in warm season – reduce.
4. Buy pigeons of the chosen breed and create the log-book of birds and also cards, from genealogical each bird.
5. Protect the dovecot from penetration of cats and rodents. The ordinary rat can ruin your work, having strangled baby birds or having stolen eggs.
6. Study methods of cultivation and crossing. Allocate the birds who are the most suitable for cultivation and begin to create the genealogical line. However you remember that in the subsequent generations the merits of the ancestor can be lost. For cultivation use only high-pedigree pigeons with pronounced signs of noble origin.
7. Conduct family trees for each pigeon. The nickname of the bird, a nickname of parents, a color and other signs are brought in them. Proceeding from family trees, it is possible to draw conclusions on transfer of hereditary signs. Good luck to you in removal of thoroughbred pigeons handsome!
