The processed substances, activity waste, the forage remains – all this is the reason of contamination of an aquarium, blossoming of water and deterioration in environmental conditions of dwelling of small fishes.

1. With what regularity it is necessary to clean the filter, unambiguously it is difficult to tell. In many respects it depends on what engine capacity of your "reservoir" and how many inhabitants lives in it. The more living creatures in an aquarium, the more often it is necessary to be engaged in cleaning of the filter. On average, it needs to be done at least once in 7-10 days. At the same time only the filter head (the filtering filler) is subject to cleaning. It is not recommended to disassemble it completely.
2. You carry out process of cleaning of the filter quickly and in the sparing mode. Surely for washing use it water from an aquarium. The filtering material is valuable the fact that it is populated by colonies of the bacteria which are directly involved in biofiltration. Therefore the task, on the one hand, consists in cleaning of the filter of pollution, and with another – in the minimum impact on bacteria which are in the same place.
3. Disconnect the filter from network, take out from an aquarium and slightly wash it with warm water, using a soft sponge. Exempt from dirt, slime and a forage the taken rotor, and then very accurately by means of a toothbrush put a filter nozzle in order.
4. If the filter at you chemical, do not forget to update the filtering materials: limy crushed stone, coal, peat. If you notice that water began to flow more slowly through the filter, carefully rinse crushed stone water, having cleaned it from silt.
5. Clean biological filters very carefully and you do not hurry to change often materials for filtration. One session of cleaning will not demand replacement of all material but only its third part. So you keep in integrity of bacteria, necessary for the filter. If ground, then its filter-bed it is better not to touch the filter at all. It is more correct to equip a big aquarium with several biological filters at once and serially to clean them.
6. There are filters multisection which combine in themselves three types of cleaning: mechanical, biological and chemical. Such filters should pay special attention. For example, weekly wash with water the sponge detaining firm particles. Change the peat sack oxidizing water time in two-three of weeks.
