1. To learn to distinguish a samochka from a male, consider sexual characters of small animals on the example of a chinchilla. The same method can be used also when choosing hamsters.
2. Pick up your small animal, put the top part of a trunk and the head on a palm, and hold a thumb of this hand. A back part has to hang down freely. Slightly support it by other hand.
3. Now you pass to studying genitalia of a small animal. At first sight they are very similar. Even you will not manage to find testicles which are hidden under skin in an adult male. Therefore attentively look narrowly at distance between urethral genitals at small animals and their anus. The anus of a chinchilla, as well as other small animals, is located closer to a tail. And further there is a penis at a male or an urethra at a female. If the distance is almost imperceptible, it seems that two openings slightly - whether do not merge, then it is a samochka. Their anus and an urethra are very close located to each other.
4. If between openings there is quite noticeable interval, then before you a male. At males of a chinchilla the distance between an anus and a genital makes about 3-4 mm.
5. It is possible to look narrowly at adult individuals also. Sometimes the samochka looks larger than a male. But this sign can not always be exact. There are also males of the considerable sizes.
6. On behavior of small animals it is improbable to define their sex too. Unless before pairing the male carries out the jumping movements, kind of trying to jump on a samochka. But it does not give 100% of a guarantee too – very quick females who jump likewise sometimes come across.
7. Usually in couple the female dominates. She behaves more actively, more movably. But all this depends on a specific individual, her temperament and habits.
8. And here on a color it will not be possible to define a sex of your small animal definitely. Chinchillas have no difference in color as it is expressed, for example, at birds or some small fishes.
