Horses are very exacting to quality of a forage. The chilled, mouldy or polluted forages cannot be given. To decide on quantity of a forage, it is necessary to consider a number of factors: a physiological condition of a horse, intensity of works on which it is used and, of course, state of environment and conditions of keeping.

1. The sweaty and excited horse to release on a pasture it is impossible. At first it is necessary to allow it to have a rest and cool down within 30-40 min.
2. If the forage is given 3 times a day, it has to be distributed as follows: the greatest part of a rough forage is given in the evening, in the morning – it is a little less, at noon, remembering that the break for food and digestion of a forage a horse is short, it is even less than in the morning. The concentrated forage at noon and is given in identical quantity in the morning, and for the night – it is more.
3. It is possible to make special dietary porridge. At the rate on 10 horses 10 kg of swaged oats, 75 g of salt undertake, 500 g of a linen seed and all this are located in a tub or a trough (also the dense box will approach) are filled in with boiled water that the forage was saturated with water. Without mixing, 5 kg of wheat bran by an even layer from above are filled. Then the box covered for heat preservation is left for 2-3 hours. Before distributing such forage, it carefully mixes up. 5. If it is required to make changes to a fodder diet, then it is necessary to do it gradually. Replacing concentrates with new, it is necessary to give them in escalating quantity mixing with old. The share of an old forage has to decrease until it is completely replaced by new.
6. As need of horses for water is very high, it is necessary to give to drink to them in plenty. The horse involved in hard work can drink one day before 50-60 l of water. The amount of the consumed liquid is affected by the air temperature, its humidity, season, intensity of loading, water content in a stern, and also from properties of the water and individual needs of an animal.
7. At insufficient amount of liquid the horse can refuse a dry feed. It is necessary to give to drink to an animal not less than 4 times a day, and at hot weather – up to 7 times. It is impossible to give to drink to the sweated and excited horse. It is necessary to wait 1-2 hours and after that to give water with the hay filled in it.
