The crank is the larvae of dipterous insects of Hironomid group living in still waters. These red ""worms"" are one of the aquarian fishes, most valuable to forages.
Instruction
1. The crank perfectly is suitable for feeding of all species of adult aquarian fishes and also the growing-up whitebaits. It is possible to give it as in the live, dry and frozen look.
2. To get the easiest way a crank - to buy it in pet-shop. If near your house there is a lake or a pond, then it is possible to try to get a crank independently. These larvae live in the top layer of ground dirt and silt therefore for their catching take a bucket with a rope, throw it on couple of meters from the coast and, dragging on a bottom, tighten to yourself. After that throw out silt on a small sieve and begin to filter. Soon the crank has to rise to the surface from where he needs to be collected by a net.
3. To get a crank in the winter, it is necessary to drill an opening in ice then to lower in it a pole of long 2-5 meters with a scoop.
4. It is necessary to store a fresh crank in the fridge. Moisten a linen rag with water, put on a saucer, an even layer distribute on fabric of a crank and cover from above with one more damp rag. You watch that the crank was always moistened. It can be stored in such state within 2-3 weeks.
5. A crank it is possible to freeze in the fridge. Before feeding it is necessary to get the necessary portion of a forage, to allow it to thaw (it is possible just to drench with hot water), and then to give to fishes.
6. The fresh crank can be dried up in the sun or in the ordinary gas furnace. It is necessary to store a dried crank in hermetically closed bank.
7. For feeding by a live crank it is the best of all to get a special feeding trough for a live forage. It is necessary in order that larvae filtered through openings gradually, and fishes managed to pick up them at a water surface as differently the crank will fall by a bottom and will bury in soil.
8. Aquarians need to remember that in spite of the fact that the crank is an excellent nutritious forage, they cannot feed fishes all life. Diversify a diet of the pets with other types of vegetable and animal forages which can also be got in pet-shop.
