Turtle – the most quiet and peaceful pet. However its obscurity does not say at all that it needs less attention and cares. Correctly to look after a turtle, it is necessary to study several rules attentively.
What to feed a turtle with?
The water turtle - by sight a harmless being, but she is the most real predator. Therefore it is necessary to feed her with animal food.
Generally water turtles are fed with different insects, earthworms and snails – all this can be bought in any pet-shop. At least once in a week the animal needs to give meat. It is better to find out what meat is preferred by your turtle. Some turtles eat beef with pleasure, others love chicken meat, but any representative will not refuse a small fish. Fish it is desirable to boil and clean from small bones that the organism of a turtle could digest food easily previously.It is desirable to vitaminize a forage. Calcium which can be given once a week is especially useful to water turtles. With age turtles pass to "a vegetarian diet". Therefore, the animal is more senior, the more often it should be added different vegetation to a diet, in particular an alga. Also depends on age how often it is necessary to feed a turtle. Young people need daily food, and adults have enough forage for three days.
Aquarium "interior"
Though turtles also carry out the most part of the life in water, the land is all the same necessary for them. Therefore in an aquarium surely there has to be "island" with a lamp which will warm the area of the height. This "island" as however and all soil, has to consist of sand or gravel. Be careful, turtles are childly curious, everything that is in their zone of reach, will be surely tried on tooth. Therefore you watch that "grains" of soil were large, it is more than head of a turtle. From here follows that to turtles it is useless to settle other inhabitants: small fishes and plant. It is necessary to maintain constant temperature in 25 °C in an aquarium, changing water every month (provided that the filter is installed). It is desirable to have thermometers which will give you information on temperature. Notice that turtles can feel comfortable only in a big aquarium therefore before buying an animal, take care of it.
Age
Before you decide to get houses a turtle, think that it is one of those few animals who can endure the person for several years. Average life expectancy of a turtle about 100 years. Cases when turtles lived also up to 300 years are known. But in house conditions all, of course, differently. Water turtles at good leaving are capable to live to 40 years.
