The most important condition of normal activity of aquarian fishes is a good water.

1. The main property of water – rigidity which level is defined by presence at liquid of ions of calcium and magnesium is important, it is measured in degrees. So, ° is 30 a sign of high rigidity above, and 11-18 ° - average. Measure hardness of water and control every time at its change or a doliva. As a rule, aquarians use devices for measurement.
2. Take a usual test tube. Pour in it water and on a drop add liquid soap. Drip - stir up a test tube, once again drip and again quietly shake. Level of rigidity is determined by number of soap drops.
3. The carbonate or temporary rigidity can be measured in house conditions by means of the indicator rn. Gain 1 ml of 70% of acetic essence in the disposable syringe and part 50 ml of the distilled or well boiled water (you boil 20 minutes, then you cool and, without mixing, you drain the "top" water).
4. Further in the same 50 ml, but already aquarian water, drip 8 drops of the indicator, and then, it is accurate it stirring up, add vinegar solution to this water. Its color will begin to change: yellow - salad – with a shade orange. After that, having measured what amount of vinegar you spent, increase the received millimeters by two - the received number and will be carbonate rigidity in milliequivalents. Of course, such way is not absolutely exact because change of color of the indicator not rather accurate.
5. It is possible to go some other way: just acquire in pet-shop the test or the special device for measurement of "water" rigidity (the truth, is not the most "economic" way from existing, but rather exact). Skilled "holders" of aquarium fishes have corresponding signs (for example, the increased hardness of water demand more soap for foam creation, "ingenerates" a raid of a teapot, etc.). Observe also you water before adding it to an aquarium.
6. And now several councils. To reduce hardness of water in your aquarium, add to it the distilled or clear rain water, use special plants, for example, elodeyu and a rogolistnik. Besides, water can be frozen or to boil well. In the first case it is poured in a low basin and exposed on a frost. As soon as it is chilled to a half of capacity, ice is punched and, having kindled, use for an aquarium. In the second – within an hour boil water in the enameled cup then allow to cool down and use two thirds of the "top" water.
