How to measure pressure at a dog

Pressure at a dog needs to be measured in the presence at her such diseases as a heart and renal failure, epilepsy, hormonal violations. It can be done in house conditions by means of a tonometer.

It is required to you

  • - veterinary or usual tonometer;
  • - stethoscope.

Instruction

1. Ask someone from family members to take a dog for a collar. Put on a manzhetka of a veterinary tonometer any paw or a tail of an animal (at his basis). The device is very simple in use, it performs measurement of pressure and issues information automatically. For dogs pressure up to 150 by 90 mm of a mercury column is normal. At small breeds the "top" pressure can reach 160-170 mm Hg.

2. Measure pressure at a dog by a usual tonometer if you have no veterinary. It is simpler to make it if on a tonometer there is a children's manzhetka. Besides, measurement of pressure will require a stethoscope.

3. Lay a dog sideways. The animal has to be in rest. Put on a manzhetka of a tonometer a lobby or a hinder leg of a dog. Pump up air in a manzhetka by means of pear. Also your assistant can make it.

4. Slowly let out the air from a manzhetka. You monitor indications of the manometer of the device, at the same time listening to pulse on an artery a stethoscope. The size of the "top" pressure on the manometer will correspond to the beginning of emergence of pulse, the device will show the size of the "lower" pressure when pulse in a stethoscope ceases to be listened.

5. Apply a palpatorny method of measurement of pressure in the absence of a stethoscope or if pulse in it is badly listened. The dog also has to be in rest and lying situation. Put on a manzhetka of a tonometer her hinder leg. Apply fingers to a femoral artery of a dog.

6. Ask your assistant to pump up air in a manzhetka, and then to slowly lower it. You watch instrument readings and at the same time probe fingers pulse on a femoral artery of a dog. To the size of the "top" pressure on the manometer there will correspond the beginning of emergence of pulse, the device will show the size of the "lower" pressure when you cease to feel fingers pulse on an artery of a dog.

7. Keep in mind that at a way of measurement by a usual tonometer at dogs the size of pressure fluctuates. On a femoral artery its maximum size can be from 165 to 188 mm of a mercury column, minimum - from 29 to 34 mm. On a humeral artery the maximum pressure will be from 130 to 145 mm, minimum - from 29 to 37 mm of a mercury column.
