Each owner of budgerigars asks a question sooner or later whether it is necessary to wash them. Definite answer to this question does not exist, however you are simply obliged to give such opportunity to a parrot.
Instruction
1. Never try to wash your parrot violently. It not only can cause in a bird a stress and for a long time (if not forever) to beat off desire to approach water, but also will undermine her confidence to you.
2. Put in a cage with a parrot a bathing bath. In it pour clear water of room temperature. The majority of parrots begin to lap actively, especially in hot weather. After bathing surely remove dirty water, otherwise the parrot will begin to drink it. If for any reasons the budgerigar refuses bathing, try to put its favourite toy or delicacy in a bath. Waters in a bath has to be a little – about 2-3 ml, it automatically excludes a possibility that the bird will drown.
3. Some budgerigars like to wash in flowing water, for example, under the crane. In this case you watch that the stream was not strong, and water not more hotly. That the budgerigar was not nervous, the situation has to be the quietest and not intense.
4. When bathing a birdie never allow drafts, parrots very easily catch a cold.
5. If the budgerigar refuses to bathe in a bath or under the crane, then it is possible to refresh it by means of a spray. Water in this case has to be rather warm that at dispersion not to deliver to a bird of discomfort. At the same time do not direct water strictly to a parrot, it is better to aim above the head that drops of water fell from above. Regular spraying is useful also for what helps to save from a habit, widespread among parrots, to pull out the feathers.
6. Specially it is not necessary to dry budgerigars after bathing, especially by means of the hair dryer. If you see that the bird froze and there is a risk to get cold, then just establish over a cage a desk lamp under which the birdie will dry up and will be warmed.
