German kurtskhaar, the German pointer or the German short-haired pointer – all this names of one breed of dog. Kurtskhaar on classification of FCI treats group of cops, section of continental working dogs with obligatory working tests. In the territory of Russia this breed received the distribution at the end of the 20th century as a universal hunting dog.

The history of breed began in the 17th century in the territory of two states: France and Spain. Hunting dogs who were used for hunting for a game with networks or for a falconry were primogenitors of present kurtskhaar. Through the adjacent states the animals got on the territory of present Germany where became interested in their cultivation at deeper level.

The main feature of pointers was the fact that they could work in a rack. And after the invention of a double-barreled gun in the 18th century such dogs became irreplaceable on hunting and received the name of a universal subgun dog. In 1897 "Breeding Book of the German Kurtskhaar" was issued, in it the exterior of a dog, trait of character, estimated rules and tests was described. From this point also official history of a German pointer began.

Breed exterior

Modern German kurtskhaar represents a dog of the average size with the shortened rigid wool. Height in withers – 58-66 cm. The color varies from brightly black to gentle "coffee with milk". This is a harmonious, lean dog which structure provides her endurance and force even at advanced age. The equal back, smooth lines of top, the dry head, strictly put tail make her similar to a figurine. German kurtskhaar looks very elegantly.

Features of character

As kurtskhaar treats the section of subgun dogs, at once it is possible to tell that character at it rather soft and quiet. He perfectly gets on with other breeds, does not apply for leadership and does not start fights, can live in pack. The owner of such remarkable breed has to understand that despite visible softness, the hunting dog, so serious, is obligatory training and sharpening of skills.
