Leptospirosis - an infectious natural and focal disease of animals, it is called still infectious jaundice. Most often the disease affects dogs who are infected directly by carriers (rodents, foxes, birds, vagrant cats) or receive pathogenic leptospira from excrement of these animals.
As leptospirosis at dogs proceeds
At dogs the leptospirosis can chronically pass, podostro, sharply and sverkhostro, the incubation period lasts 3-20 days. The supersharp course of disease is characterized by sharp temperature increase and manifestations of weakness, the unusual activity turning into violence is in some cases observed. The increased temperature keeps the first hours of a disease, then sharply falls to norm below. Breath at dogs in this case superficial and frequent. Bloody urine and yellowness of mucous membranes is observed. The disease in a supersharp current lasts 2-48 hours, mortality – 95-100%.
The sharp course of a disease is followed by fever, slackness and refusal of food. In 2-10 days there is a yellowness of skin and mucous membranes. The urination complicated, and urine has brown and cherry color. The bloody diarrhea which can be replaced then by a lock is observed. Blood quickly turns. Wool becomes dim and uncombed, a large number of dandruff appears. In several days of a course of disease, necrotic spots become noticeable. Pregnant animals have abortions, decreases or absolutely lactation stops. If not to begin to treat a dog at an early stage, the lethal outcome is almost inevitable.
The subsharp course of a disease passes as well as sharp, but symptoms are more weakly expressed and proceed more slowly. Also the increased perspiration, trembling and lameness is noted. Sometimes at the sharp and subsharp course of a disease in corners of eyes white or greenish pus accumulates. The atypical form passes even more imperceptibly, all symptoms disappear in several days. Chronic manifestation of leptospirosis meets rather seldom and is followed by anemia and exhaustion of a dog. From time to time temperature increase with simultaneous change of color of urine on brown is noted. The dog avoids light and tries to hide in the dark place. At animals the molt is late or on the contrary some parts of the body grow bald, necrotic spots appear.
The reasons and treatment of leptospirosis at dogs
In the city other sick animals or carriers which disease passes asymptomatically can become the cause of infection with leptospirosis. The dog is infected through stings and scratches and also through things (bowls, laying, toys, etc.) which were used by the infected animals. Puppies can get sick in utero from sick mother or from the infected milk. Treatment of the dogs sick with leptospirosis, it is impossible to be engaged independently, it is necessary to address the veterinarian. At a sharp form of a disease to an animal hyperimmune serum and antibiotics is appointed, droppers are put and even blood is purified. Vitamins for strengthening of an organism and recuperation are in addition prescribed. Depending on a condition of a dog and a course of disease the dietotherapy is appointed.
