Some birds with the onset of cold weather leave the native land, going to distant travel to southern latitudes. This fine show can be observed every fall, and only farewell shout of migratory birds still will remind some time of feathery wanderers.

1. The reasons for which some birds fly away on the South are obvious: in the winter under snow it is difficult to look for food, and ambient temperature becomes too low. The fact is that birds are warm-blooded animals with the body temperature averaging 40 wasps. When cold weather comes to the region, some birds lack heat as their feathers and down are not enough to endure severe frosts. But not all birds freeze in the winter! For example, crows, sparrows, titmouses, pigeons are not afraid of cold weather. They are settled, i.e. do not leave native northern latitudes, and winter together with the person. Such birds find food near slop tanks, in feeding troughs, eat winter berries on trees, etc. The fact is that the amount of subcutaneous fat and feathers and also the structure of their body differ from physiology of migratory birds a little.
2. The majority of migratory birds are insectivorous creations which food allowance during the winter period comes down to zero. For this reason migratory birds go there where snow never drops out, and their food remains full. Thrushes, rooks, daws, chaffinches, zoryanka, slavka, porridge, a swallow treat migratory birds. In summertime of year these birds eat large insects (may-bugs, dragonflies), to meet them in northern latitudes is simply unreal in the winter. For example, many swallows in general fly away on the Mediterranean coast, and the most desperate of them – straight to Africa! Also beautiful cranes fly away on the South. In September they gather in a distant travel. These beautiful and graceful birds say goodbye to people till the spring, at this time in the sky their beautiful and guttural shout which is carried on all clean and autumn air is clearly heard.
3. Such birds as hawks, kites, cuckoos and halcyons fly away to warm regions one by one. But the majority of migratory birds, nevertheless, leave native northern latitudes the whole packs. For example, cranes build a graceful and beautiful wedge in the sky, and ducks form slanting ranks. Such birds as lapwings, martins, orioles, warblers, starlings, zhulana, nightingales, herons, swans, hoopoes and wagtails also treat migratory birds. Migratory birds return home at different times: someone earlier, and someone later. For example, national bulletins of spring call swallows though there is an opinion that the first to the native land rooks fly, nevertheless. Since ancient times return of rooks represented arrival of spring and heat. Such reputation of spring messengers made these birds national favourites: they are joyfully met, tried to be fed up.
