Cocker spaniels, as well as all numerous group of breeds having the general definition "spaniels" are hunting dogs. However, it is visible also from their name, it comes from English cock – a woodcock. To find a game and to lift it "on a wing" and also to search for the winged birds, and the English cocker spaniels who were used then for creation of one more breed – American cocker spaniels were initially brought.
English cocker spanielsThis primordially English breed was recognized that in 1892, it was purposefully removed for hunting for a small game. During official existence of breed its standard was several times specified, the latest revision approved in 1969 works now.
The English cocker spaniel – small (up to 11 kg) the dog differing in a proportional constitution, long ears and expressive eyes. Cockers, in the majority, have quite good character and are able to get on both with children, and with pets. But, strangely enough, these by sight absolutely "plush" dogs surely hold the first place among other breeds on number of stings which they put to the owners. Small membranes between "fingers" make cockers excellent swimmers, and they love this occupation to self-forgetfulness – are capable, having spread ears on water, to cross each pool which will get to them on the road during walk in the forest.
This breed, judging by responses, differs in courage, hardness and strength of mind, her representatives often get involved in fights with much larger and strong rivals and often win because of the persistence. Bringing up a puppy of this breed, consider this feature and do not allow it "to be forgotten", and that not one your hunting will be hopelessly spoiled by dog fights. Cockers are congenital hunters, the ability to giving at them is developed very well, they perceive an opportunity something to give and to bring as manifestation of love for the owner, and at all not as a duty.
American cocker spaniels
The breed is officially registered in the forties the last century. The English cocker spaniels were taken as a basis during the selection work, but "Americans" differ in the smaller growth, longer wool and characteristic long "trousers" on paws. There are differences and in the form of a skull and the head size.
If you want to get an American cocker spaniel, be ready to devoting much time for classes and communication with the pets. They especially need it.
