It is necessary to belong to some categories of products carefully in spite of the fact that they very much are pleasant to animals.
Polecat - a carnivore
The main thing that each owner of a polecat has to remember – it the animal belongs to the category of carnivorous. The main place in their diet is taken by the food rich with protein and carbohydrates. Polecats differ in ability to quickly digest a forage therefore even bones are acquired in an organism only within several hours.
In the conditions of the habitat the polecats eat small rodents, birds and eggs. In house conditions they willingly eat boiled meat of a turkey and chicken. And you should not delete stones. The structure of a jaw an animal allows to cope with quite large pieces of meat, and bones are necessary for them for teeth and normal development of a skeleton. The care should be shown with crude meat, and it is better to refuse pork absolutely. It is seldom possible to give to polecats boiled meat of beef with the minimum quantity of fat.
Pay attention that when feeding a polecat it is impossible to mix ready forages with natural food at all. Such experiments can turn into an urolithic disease at the pet.
As additional sources of vitamins the animals should include cottage cheese, a liver, vegetable oil and cod-liver oil in a diet. It is periodically possible to indulge polecats mice and rats who are on sale in specialized shops. Experts recommend to prepare for pets, so-called, "farshekasha" on the basis of meat, bones and any grain. Besides, there are special dry feeds for polecats enriched with vitamins and nutrients. You should not confuse these products with dog food and cats.
What it is impossible to feed a polecat withIt is worth excluding from a food allowance of a domestic polecat completely sweets, dairy products and fresh apples. Such products are badly acquired in a stomach of an animal, and excessive feeding by a harmful forage can lead not only to disorder of digestion, but also to serious diseases. Practically each polecat eats condensed milk with pleasure. The animal feels the real delight from this delicacy. Only it is impossible to offer it such product. Condensed milk combines in itself sugar and milk which are contraindicated to polecats.
Polecats very choosy treat new products in the diet. It is better to mix new food to a habitual forage in the small portions.
Vegetable foodIn the wild nature the polecats practically do not use vegetable forages. These animals - predators also eat exclusively animal food. In house conditions it is possible to offer the pet raisin, peas, potatoes or carrots.
Water in a diet of a polecatPolecats use per day quite large amount of liquid. Water has to be in free access constantly. The drinking bowl should be updated periodically, but you should not pour too cold water.
