Where there live monkeys: area of their dwelling

Monkeys, or primacies are the chetveroruky mammals close in structure bodies to the person. These animals live mainly in tropical and subtropical forests with a warm and humid climate.

Habitat of different types of monkeys

Monkeys are called not for nothing chetveroruky mammals. Most of representatives of this look live in crowns, dexterously getting over from a branch on a branch. In dense equatorial forests there are primacies who never go down on the earth. For example, the royal gvereets living in Africa from Senegal to Ethiopia carry out all the life in crowns. They are beautiful jumpers and overcome long distances, jumping from a branch on a branch.

Monkeys of the large and average size go down from trees on the earth more often. Some, for example, baboons, live only on the earth, completely ignoring trees. They form big groups and, moving together, are capable to resist even to such large predators as leopards and lions.

The majority of monkeys live in warm climate and badly transfer cold. However some types adapted to living conditions in cold. So, the Japanese macaques live on the northern island of Honshu where average winter temperature is 5oc, and snow cover can lie up to four months in a year. Bodies of these animals are covered with the dense and long wool which is reliably protecting them from cold winds. Besides, snow macaques learned to use geological features of the Japanese islands with benefit – they spend the most part of time, luxuriating in water of hot springs. Also subzero temperatures successfully transfer some species of monkeys living in the mountains of China and South America.

Area of dwelling of monkeys

Primacies generally meet in tropics and subtropics of Africa, South America and Southeast Asia. Africa is almost completely populated with different types of monkeys, excepting the Sahara Desert. Among a great number of the primacies meeting on the continent large anthropoids are of special interest: chimpanzee and gorillas. On the island of Madagascar, contrary to popular belief, there are no primacies. But here their more primitive "relatives" – lemurs live. In Asia the area of dwelling of monkeys includes all Indo-Malayan area, the most part of China, the South of the Korean peninsula, numerous islands Indian and partially Japanese islands. Orangutans, large anthropoids, meet on Kalimantan and Sumatra. In South America the greatest variety of species of primacies is observed in a river basin of Amazon. Here it is possible to meet the least monkeys from family the tamarin. Howler monkeys, saymir and different types of Capuchins also live in forests of Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela.
