Krasnoukhy turtles are the unpretentious animals who are quickly adapting to house conditions. But in bondage they seldom bring forth offspring: special conditions of keeping are for this purpose necessary. In general, cultivation of krasnoukhy turtles should not represent for the owner of problems. Females lay eggs independently, it is necessary to provide due care only: suitable habitat, healthy nutrition, freedom of travel and rest.
Choice of the partner
The best time for reproduction of turtles – the period from February to May. For successful reproduction in house conditions it is desirable to place several individuals of one look in one terrarium. The ratio of females and males 2:1 promotes manifestations of marriage behavior at animals. If in an aquarium there live several couples and between two individuals good relations were established, it is necessary to transplant for the period of other turtles. There is a high probability that "it is love" and there will be a pairing soon. When choosing suitable turtles for pairing it is necessary to consider age of animals. Turtles have to be mature, but not old. Ideal age – 5 years.
The choice of the place for pairing
Sometimes males and females are supported separately, moving to the general open-air cage only during pairing. In this case it is desirable to settle a female of a turtle on the territory to a male. It is possible to use for pairing a separate terrarium with warm water which depth does not exceed 10 cm. Pairing of turtles happens in water and on the land, and one fertilization is enough for several (4-5) layings. Sperm can remain in genitals of a female a long time – up to two years.
The choice of the place for a laying
If pairing does not happen, it is possible to stimulate reproduction of animals, increasing water temperature and increasing duration of light day in the open-air cage. If in an aquarium where turtles live, there are no "sushi", it is necessary to build the artificial beach. That the female laid eggs, the flat coast with a sand layer in 3-5 cm will be required Sometimes, that the turtle does a laying directly in water, then eggs need to be taken out immediately. Quite often krasnoukhy turtles lay not oosperms, as well as many other reptiles. If the female living in loneliness postponed a laying, there is no sense to look after eggs. Only when several turtles of both sexes constantly live in an aquarium, there is a pairing probability.
Care for eggs
The most difficult stage in reproduction – care for eggs. The laying needs to be placed in an incubator as which it is possible to use a usual glass jar with sand very carefully. The bank should warm by means of the glow lamp or to arrange near the battery, and sand – regularly to humidify. Optimum temperature in an incubator – 28–30 °C. Eggs have to be protected from a mold, be aired. Cultivation of turtles is a heavy responsibility and difficult work of manufacturers. But all efforts will be rewarded when in 2-3 months little turtles are born.
