Why after henna it is impossible to dye hair

Why after henna it is impossible to dye hair

Henna is natural hair-dye on the basis of henna plant. It gives to hair, depending on initial state and color, shades from bright red to dark copper. Henna not only paints, but also strengthens hair, does them more dense, more dense and stronger. But it has one shortcoming – after henna use hair cannot be dyed artificial dyes. The result can turn out unpredictable, and at best paint just will not lay down on hair.

As henna and artificial dyes paints hair

Henna represents powder of muddy marshy color with specific smell. Molecules of the tannin, natural dye of orange color are part of leaves of henna, but this pigment is not visible in powder as it is eclipsed by chlorophyll. But if to crush leaves and to part them in water, and it is even better in acid liquid, for example in lemon juice, then cellular membranes will be dissolved, dye is released.

If at the same time to apply henna on hair, then the released dye begins to come to hair core where connects to keratin. Thus, henna gets directly into structure of hair, molecules of the tannin closely contact keratin on external layers of hair. Therefore henna is almost not washed away from locks – paint darkens a little over time, but strong keeps, to wash it extremely difficult.

Exactly thanks to the ability to get into structure of hair and to contact keratin henna strengthens hair, does it thicker and stronger.

Chemical dyes without peroxide of hydrogen envelop hair, giving them right color. Paint with peroxide in structure releases at the time of coloring oxygen which gets into pigments of hair and clarifies them. If hair of natural color or painted by artificial dye, then paint behaves predictably, but it is combined with vegetable pigments badly: dye or is not shown as cannot fight against such strong pigment, or under the influence of the tannin changes the action, leading to creation of other color, or influences poorly and paints hair unevenly. At the same time it is difficult to predict in advance what will be gained effect if to use paint after henna.

Chemical paint after henna

In interaction of vegetable pigment of henna and chemical paint various results which are usually disappointing can turn out. In certain cases hair get unexpected shades - from bright orange to green. Risk to receive green color on hair increases if during the previous painting by henna you have added basma for more dark and saturated color. Even if color in general has turned out good, then on daylight it is possible to notice greenish reflections of head of hear. In other cases chemical paint badly lays down on henna and does not give almost any effect. Many girls also complain that even when they managed to paint over henna artificial paint, the copper shade had all the same an effect. To be recoloured to remove greens or reddishness, too not always it turns out. However, it is impossible to tell that paint always leads to unpleasant consequences after henna.

Can sometimes carry, and the expected effect of paint will match result, everything depends on structure of hair, quality of dye, the used henna and other factors.

But as dye behaves is unpredictable, laying down on henna, most of hairdressers do not undertake to dye such hair and do not advise to do it independently. If you do not want to wait until hair grow that to paint them, surely at first make the test on small lock in the thick of hairstyle to check effect of specific dye for henna.
