The ability to estimate the world around, to draw conclusions about it and to take any given actions directly is connected with consciousness. It is a basis of all cognitive activity of the person, exactly thanks to consciousness the mankind reached all present heights.
Exact definition of consciousness still does not exist. It agrees one of treatments, consciousness call ability of the person to estimate the condition and features of the world around and to undertake any given actions on the basis of the analysis of the arriving information. Consciousness indissolubly is traditional connect with thought process. "I think, therefore, I exist", ‒ the French philosopher Descartes said at the time. And he was right, thinking does the person to those who is he is, allows to consider situations from different sides, to draw certain conclusions and to arrive according to them.
As the person learns the world
The modern person thinks of words, but it no more than a habit. It is possible to think images, such way of thinking is much faster and is exact. Moreover, thinking is peculiar images to each person, simply the habit to think of words usually gets the best. The most important quality of the person as conscious being consists in ability to analyze the developing situation. That, in turn, allows it to learn the world and to gain experience. Consciousness templates
It would seem, consciousness of the person provides it all opportunities for effective cognitive activity. But in practice there is a serious difficulty connected with one of features of work of consciousness – creation of perception templates by it. Remember, you for certain had to get into a situation when electricity in the apartment is cut off, but you, entering the room, on a habit you reach for the switch. At the same time you know that there is no light. It is only one of examples of work of templates, the most trivial. And there is a lot of templates in human life. Some of them are useful, survival directly depends on them. For example, the driver automatically reacts to signals of the traffic light and change of a situation on the road, all this was postponed in his consciousness at the level of reflexes. He does not need to think to make the correct decision. Working for survival, consciousness templates at the same time limit informative ability of the person. They deprive of it an opportunity to doubt the known habitual things, do not allow to look at the world with a fresh pair of eyes. Example familiar to much: in the apartment the quartz watch, each second movement of an arrow is followed by quite loud click. You can listen – and not to hear these clicks, consciousness blocks them as an unnecessary foreign sound. To hear hours, sometimes it is necessary to make considerable efforts – at some point the sound suddenly again becomes heard, literally rushes into ears. The ability to look at the world with a fresh pair of eyes plays very large role in knowledge processes. Well-known "brain storms" during which it is authorized to their participants to state even the most crazy ideas are a good example of destruction of stereotypes of perception. Without connecting itself by restrictions, people put forward various ideas, at the same time some of them are revolutionary. Than consciousness is more liberated, especially knowledge process is effective. The one who is capable to look at the world with a fresh pair of eyes will always find a lot of new and novel, to make the most surprising discoveries.
