1. Do not try to accelerate process of falling off of an umbilical cord at all. Everything has to occur naturally. Also you should not wipe a navel of the kid with liquids which part alcohol is.
2. After falling away of an umbilical cord, or its cutting off in the surgical way, in a wound perhaps formation of crusts which can be bloody or transparent. These formations should be deleted, processing them hydrogen peroxide. Drip to the place of formation of a crust peroxide from the pipette and carefully get wet with sterile cotton wool. It is necessary to repeat the procedure daily until crusts do not disappear. The place of processing needs to be greased with brilliant green.
3. Do not try to change a shape of a navel, fixing it an adhesive plaster or putting coins. Such manipulations can lead to very serious complications.
4. Try to provide access of air to an umbilical cord. Air is the best means for ensuring normal drying and falling away of an umbilical cord. Daily air bathtubs will facilitate healing process.
5. Swaddle the kid so that edges of fabric did not touch an umbilical cord. As for diapers, it is more preferable to choose products with a cut for a navel.
6. In certain cases the umbilical cord at the kid in the first days of life can bleed a little. In this case process it hydrogen peroxide. If in 5 minutes after processing the umbilical cord does not stop bleeding, immediately see a doctor.
7. Many experts incline that you should not bathe those children at whom the umbilical cord remains remained in a bath before full healing of an umbilical wound. It is worth avoiding water ingress on a navel therefore it is better to be limited to washing of the child, without immersion to the bathroom. When the wound completely heals, you will be able to start full-fledged water procedures.
8. If you notice that in the field of an umbilical ring there was a consolidation having the oval or round form, increasing in sizes at shout of the baby, then it speaks about presence of umbilical hernia. In this situation you should not be engaged in self-treatment which is fraught with complications. Hernia demands the immediate address to the pediatrician.
9. If the umbilical wound at the kid long does not heal, it is necessary to show the child to the expert. Normal full healing has to happen within three weeks after appearance of the child on light.
