In many families the pets appeared long before the birth of children. With emergence to houses of the kid many parents, having faced difficulties on care for it, often think of reorganization of the pets in new "kind hands". But whether such decision can always be useful to family?

Experts distinguish the following from positive aspects of cohabitation of children and pets:
- Strengthening of health of children. The children growing near pets possess stronger immune system and less often are ill.
- Positive influence on children's mentality. The child who plays with the pet or just irons him has an emission of endorphins therefore they feel joy and happiness. And it, in turn, influences mentality of the person.
- Children perceive the pets as the true devoted friends. Children with pleasure play with the pets, perceiving them as equal. Such pastime positively affects development of the child: he learns to interact, communicate, he has a self-confidence, and the self-assessment raises.
- Pets accustom children to responsibility. The child living under the same roof with an animal understands that there is a category of those living beings which needs his care. Over time such child will learn to look after the pet. Existence of the simplest habits connected with care of others will allow the child to become in the future the responsible adult and the worthy parent.
- Pets contribute to a speech development in kids. Many logopedists and psychologists note that at the children who are constantly interacting with animals the speech develops better. And if to the child suffering from a speech arrest of development to get the speaking parrot, then he will start talking quicker, than in an office at the logopedist.

As well as any phenomenon, cohabitation of children and pets has also bad points. Generally they are connected with the burden of responsibility falling on parents:
- Pets can become the cause of some diseases. Most often, the real reason for which families should leave the pets — a heavy allergy of children to wool or saliva of animals.
- Need to find for education is more than time. Safety, both children, and animals is a result of education. Parents should devote much time to education and the child, explaining him rules of safe interaction with animals, and an animal, accustoming him to life with the new family member.
- High requirements to respect for hygiene. To protect the child from the diseases transferred by pets it is necessary to carry out cleaning of rooms twice more often. It is also necessary to wash to a thicket pets, in time to carry out preventive processing from parasites.
- Short term of life of pets. Unfortunately, some pets live very little, in comparison with people. And to explain to the child where his favourite hamster was gone — very difficult, and demands huge sincere forces.
