How to understand whether the child has a musical talent

It is so pleasant to see the sons or daughters on the stage, to hear how they are clapped by public. Sometimes it seems to parents that the way to musical triumph is quite real: purchase of the tool, receipt in music school, persistent classes. Here only not any parent estimates degree of musical abilities of the child objectively.

Any talent, including musical – the phenomenon difficult, not up to the end studied. In psychological science there are different models of talent. The most rigid of them – the multiplicative model formulated by the American erudite D. Simonton: if at least one of components of talent is equal to zero, then and all other components should "be increased by zero". According to this model in any given area only 0.5% of people can be considered as talented.

It, of course, the exaggeration, and still the number of talented people is small, and parents have to be ready that their child is not included into this number.

Musical abilities

Core of musical talent – musical abilities. The main are distinguished from them – such without which any musical activity is impossible: neither execution of music, nor composition, nor even perception. Scientists and teachers consider that all people have such abilities, excluding is only total deafs from the birth, the distinction consists in extent of their development. The main musical abilities are marked out by the domestic psychologist B. Teplov: LVL feeling, musical and rhythmic feeling and ability to formation of the generalized musical and acoustical representations. The LVL feeling is an ability to perceive music as expression of some contents. Its external manifestations – ability to estimate the nature of music more variously, than "sad" or "cheerful", to distinguish a complete melody from incomplete, steady harmony from unstable. The musical and rhythmic feeling is expressed in ability to move in compliance with a musical rhythm – to march in a step, to dance, transferring the nature of music in the movement. The ability to the generalized musically acoustical representations is shown in ability to identify melodies which the child somewhere and once heard in any timbre statement – whatever person sang them without words on what tool they would not be played.

Other components of talent

One of the main signs of talent – high motivation of musical activity. If parents take the child to music school "escorted by", and houses forcibly set for the tool – the talented musician of this child it is impossible to call even if it well developed musical abilities. Really talented child passionately wishes to study music – sometimes even contrary to will of parents – and knows for sure what instrument he wants to play. Critically it is necessary to estimate desire to study playing a guitar – it can be defined not by talent, but imitation peers. It is unlikely will achieve success in music the child with poor health who often is ill, quickly gets tired, performing activity – hard physical activity. For the same reason the enemy of musical talent can be considered restlessness. Whatever obvious the musical talent of the child seemed to his parents, it is necessary to leave the last word for the teacher-musician. Teachers can be mistaken too, but is not as frequent as it can be presented to ambitious fathers and mothers.
