The complex self-assessment includes assessment of abilities, physical characteristics, acts and moral qualities. Many psychologists claim that a self-assessment – a new growth of teenage age. During this period its real action begins.

The self-assessment of teenagers differs in a situativnost, instability, susceptibility to external influences. The last point is referred more often to early teenage age, later it is replaced by stability and versatility of coverage of spheres of activity. Most of teenagers possesses an adequate self-assessment. Giving itself lower mark in important fields of activity, they show formation of a realistic picture of life.

Gender features of a self-assessment

A number of the conducted researches indicated lack of dependence of ability to give an adequate assessment to the activity from a sex of the teenager. The ability to estimate adequately people around at girls above, this fact is explained by their interest in people around. But transfer of knowledge of other people on the I is higher at boys. The main lines which estimate young men are strong-willed, intellectual and communicative qualities. Guys look for answers to questions: "What they in the opinion of people", "It is how close to the ideal", "Differences of his personality from people around are how high". At early teenage age a self-assessment of girls 10 times less than at young men. Such gap is connected with great attention of girls to a question of own appearance. As the main criterion the appeal of a body, but not its efficiency acts.

Influence of a self-assessment on behavior

Teenagers with an adequate self-assessment have higher level of progress without sharp jumps, the high personal and public status. The big field of interests of such teenagers is directed to various types of activity, and interpersonal contacts are expedient and moderated. High self-esteem makes the teenager limited in issues of activity. More often the emphasis is placed on communication which differs in low-pithiness. The extreme overestimated or underestimated self-assessment is characterized by the increased uneasiness, inability to find a solution in difficult situations, egocentrism.

Family – a self-assessment basis

The self-assessment of teenagers seeks for emancipation and separation from opinion of people around. However stay in society does not allow to make it, judgments and support of parents and peers are the most significant. The parental opinion is perceived only as some possible point of view on "themselves". It does not mean that the teenager is alienated from family. The general self-assessment in many respects depends on adoption of aspirations of the teenager by parents while assessment related to teachers is significant only at a self-assessment of abilities. The negative and rigid attitude of parents forces teenagers to be focused on failures, to avoid participation in various competitions, provoke aggression, roughness and uneasiness. Not only self-determination in collective, but also educational progress depends on recognition by parents.
