The term "relations of familiarity" means lack of any subordination, a distance between people. That is their relations are free from respect, officiality, remind friendly or even brotherly more (from here and the name). At first sight, it is good. The old slogan of Soviet period is involuntarily remembered: "The person to the person – the friend, the companion and the brother!" However relations of familiarity have many negative sides.

In what familiarity minuses

When it comes to the relations of close relatives, a lot of things are natural and pardonable: excessive frankness, invasion into "personal space", even familiarity. Though, of course, and to dear people it is necessary to behave with each other delicately, avoiding tactlessness, forwardness. The family usually approach with less strict measure, than strangers. At the same time, the fact of close relationship gives the grounds to apply for the special relation, to wait for the help and support.

But if it is about strangers, the similar behavior almost for certain will lead to quarrels, offenses, the conflicts. When the person who is not neither the close relative, nor the close friend behaves is too free, dares to interfere in others personal space, constantly requires attention or the help, it causes instinctive discontent and even indignation.

Why relations of familiarity harm work

In some organizations, institutions the principle "As little as possible officiality" works. Their heads consider that the labor collective has to be as one big and close-knit family, and then all employees will diligently fulfill the duties, there will be no problems with discipline, intrigues, envy, etc. Therefore they not only treat employees familiarly, but also in every possible way encourage such behavior of subordinates. However in most cases the result turns out opposite to that which they expect. No organization can function successfully without observance at least of elementary rules of subordination, labor discipline. Even to the most democratic and indulgent head sometimes it is necessary not only to encourage, but also to punish employees. Besides, its orders, instructions have to be obligatory for execution and how it can achieve if he in the opinion of subordinates – only "one of many"? Of course, from this does not follow at all that the chief has to be surely tough, authoritative, but some distance among themselves and subordinated to him needs to be observed. Besides, the familiarity between employees often leads to unproductive expenditure of working hours when instead of performance of official duties the infinite talk on personal subjects is carried on. People can rally against any employee, and it is wrong too.
