When the child has to start walking

Children Hits: 75

The first steps of the child – a big event to which parents look forward. But all kids develop differently, some start walking surely in seven months, others only in one and a half years take the first step. It does not mean that someone lags behind in development, and someone advances if everything occurs in the period of norm – that is approximately up to 18 months.

Ability to go

The first year of life the child to learn to coordinate the movements, since simple: at first waves a hand, moves legs, then tries to turn over, sit down, gradually begins to creep, and soon and independently to rise with a support or without. On the first weeks of life children begin to touch legs and to make a start from a surface if to hold them vertically. All this is preparation for more serious and important occupation, walking. When walking important not only to monitor coordination of movements, but also to train sense of equilibrium – undeveloped ability to keep balance does not allow children to start walking as soon as they manage to get up.

Walking – not only important ability for the child, it also marks the end of the period of an infancy. As soon as the first steps are taken, development will go much quicker: soon the kid will begin to move actively, adhering for furniture, then will surely go without any support, and some more months – and will run and jump.

Approximate terms of development of ability to go

In five months it is possible to notice that the child makes a start from a floor legs if to hold it vertically by armpits. It jumps up a little, and this occupation usually gives it pleasure. This exercise will help with further development of ability to go. Approximately in eight months the kid will begin to get up, holding hands of parents or furniture. He tries to keep very much in this situation, strong grabbing backs of chairs or a covering of a sofa. But at such age not at all the sense of equilibrium and coordination of movements are well developed therefore walking is still impossible. Though from this point development will go quicker – in several weeks the child will be able independently to move, holding furniture or by hands. He actively crosses legs, but cannot hold balance yet. By 13 months most of kids begin to take the first steps – still uncertainly, but already independently. There was a little more time, and soon it will be the real walking.

Norms for walking development

The described higher than the terms are very approximate, actually for each child they are individual. There are many cases when children start walking independently in seven months. But quite often this ability appears only in 16, 17 or even 18 months. Even if in one and a half years the child is not able to take confident steps yet, but for the rest develops normally, you should not worry strongly. Watch the kid, help it to move, but also provide it freedom – excessive guardianship can become the reason that the child long does not start walking independently.
