When to return the child in school after a disease

Cold, fever, cough, flu and also gastrointestinal frustration and conjunctivitis, ekzantematichesky diseases, such as chicken pox, rubella, measles and pediculosis is main problems which children within academic year face. But when the child gets sick how long he should stay at home? How many does recovery have to continue? And how you can define whether really the child recovered, or not?

Hold your horses!

"Be patient and you do not hurry to return it in school too early", - the pediatrician Giuseppe di Mauro, the president of the Italian society of preventive and social pediatrics (Sipps) advises. He explains: "In the first years of life and at school age the recovery is very important because as a result of infections the immune system of the child tends to turn into easy immunosuppression: it means that it is easier to regenerate it".

Therefore it is desirable that the child stayed at home some more days: not only in order to avoid infection of companions, but also for reduction of risk of a recurrence.

Recovery time

But what suitable periods of time for an absolute recovery? "At respiratory diseases (otitis, pharyngitis, rhinitis) and also at cold there are no fixed periods: each case has to be analyzed individually, depending on the diagnosis and the general condition of the child", - Di Mauro says, - "In general, we can tell that if at the child the fever, cough or sneezing is still observed, it is desirable to stay at home until all symptoms pass ".

And if the disease is in a fever? "Ideal is to wait 24 hours which will testify to an absolute recovery of the child", - the expert advises. Remember that in case of fever it is necessary to appoint febrifuge only at a temperature over 38 ° and only in case of a real indisposition of the child, it is the best of all - in 48 or 72 hours. It is because fever which often is manifestation of a viral infection can not only pass without use of drugs but also to become the child's ally, creating the conditions hostile to survival of a virus.

Fever at children, everything that mothers have to know

On the other hand, for other diseases extending among children it is possible to determine standard time of an exit in school, considering, however, that the clinical picture of a separate subject always has to be estimated. "For example, at gastrointestinal frustration it is necessary to wait for the termination of vomiting, diarrhea and belly-aches", - Di Mauro says.

And again: "In case of conjunctivitis the child can return to a class in two days after an initiation of treatment while for such diseases as measles, a rubella, chicken pox (which can still be prevented easily by means of the corresponding inoculations), you should wait not less than five days. After this period the child is not infectious any more, but, obviously, we always have to estimate that we feel. The condition of wellbeing of the personality is always very subjective".

On the other hand, it is also necessary to remember that exanthematous diseases considerably weaken the immune system therefore, as a rule, it is easier to infect the child when he comes back to society.
