If to look at recognized Hollywood beauties of the 20th century, it is simple to notice that these women have absolutely different appearance. Among them there are also ample bodied blondes with rounded shapes, and thin graceful brunettes. The fashion is not constant, and the ideal of female appearance also underwent significant changes.

Fashion for symmetry

Those who considers that the beautiful girl has to possess a slender waist or graceful ankles in Ancient Greece should change the opinion. Here young ladies symmetric were popular with men. Greeks had a canon of Polykleitos in which it was accurately specified that in a body eight heads and also other proportions which still use when training in drawing have to find room.

Later the same thought was developed by Leonardo da Vinci, having expected that the distance from a chin to a nose has to equal to height of an ear and distance from the line of growth of hair to eyebrows. It was impossible to argue with mathematics, and no features of appearance turned into highlights, and remained shortcomings. However with arrival of Christianity ideas of an ideal figure were replaced. If in full and safe Greece the attention of men was drawn by moderately well-fed women with an elastic breast and a small appetizing tummy, then the medieval ideal is a flat and thin girl, the appearance the lust which was not causing in venerable husbands.

If to apply da Vinci's system to modern actors, then it will turn out that the most attractive is Mag Rein, and here Greta Garbo tails after.

The more the better

In the 15th century more nobody ran for girls with a ruler, but the fashion for stout women came. As machoes of that time liked to talk profusely, the real woman has to possess a dense constitution, big shoulders, brawny forearms and strong legs. Now the country ideal became fashionable. Change in European cuisine became the reason of such changes: in it there was a set of fat and sweet dishes, and great ladies began to get fat.

Pictures of Renaissance abound with the magnificent ladies who were considered at that time as the most attractive.

Naturalness of revolution

After the French revolution it became simply dangerous to be the ample bodied young lady in a multilayered dress and with the powdered face. And there was no opportunity to powder skin, to create high hairstyles and to sew expensive dresses. The fashion for a gothic style, romanticism and lack of money created other ideal – the thin pale girl with dark circles under eyes, blood-red lips and Byron's small volume in hands.

Into place

After Europe recovered from revolutions, and the bourgeoisie became the new aristocracy, everything began to fall back into place. Again pretty female faces, accurately used eye shadow, hairstyles which are reminding buds, the elegant and moderately calling squads became popular. However, the 20th century became for fashion time of fast changes. Emancipation, wars and the subsequent to them dictated the periods of wellbeing to women to become thin and mobile, broad-shouldered and sporty girlfriends to men, fragile flowers in dresses of New Look. The ideal of beauty is the sum of the social inquiries shown by society to the woman. And the 21st century, not less prompt, than 20, for certain will stir up more than once old trends and will introduce something new.
