The file system of the information medium, for example, of the hard drive, defines the data storage format, it imposes restrictions for names and the sizes of files and sections. Sometimes there is a need of change of the file system, for example, record of files of the big size (over 4 GB) requires the NTFS file system.
Instruction
1. For conversion the file system in Windows XP OS, it is possible to use the wired program of conversion (Convert.exe), or one of a set of third-party programs. To transform the FAT file system to the NTFS system the Convert.exe program which is built in Windows, open the main menu "Start-up" and select the Execute … item. In the appeared window enter the cmd command and click OK.
2. The window of the command line will open, enter a command
CONVERT of a bukva_disk: / FS: NTFS
On the specified disk the NTFS file system will be created.
3. Here it is necessary to notice that in the course of converting the error message can be given. It can appear if the CONVERT program is started from the directory which is on a convertible disk, in it a case it is necessary to restart the program, previously having passed to other disk. The error message will be given, in attempt of conversion of a disk from which the operating system is started. At last, if at the time of the beginning of conversion of a disk, the open files which are stored on this disk are found, then the error message will also be given.
4. As the program for conversion of a system it is possible to use, for example Partition Manager.
Start the program in regime of the experienced user, having selected the corresponding item in the menu of start.
Select the Panel of Disks tab, select a disk which file system needs to be changed. In a context menu of this disk select the Convert the File System item.
5. In the opened window select the new file system and click "Convert".
In the Changes menu select the Apply Changes item, confirm actions, having clicked "Yes" then converting process will begin. In operating time of the program the reset of a system will be required, at the right time, the corresponding report will be given. Process comes to an end with reset of the computer, as a result the disk will be transformed to the new file system.
