The gateway, or the router – an indispensable condition of operability of a home or corporate network. For this reason its stable work is important and also you should be able to install and configure correctly the router to ensure smooth operation of the network. It is absolutely simple to configure the router in Windows XP and Windows 7.

Instruction

1. To start setup open "Start-up", then – "Control panel", and select the menu of network connections. Click with the right mouse button the adapter for which it is necessary to configure the gateway, then click in the dropped-out Properties menu.

2. Open a tab "Network". Find the section "The Components Used by This Connection" for change of protocols.

3. Open the section "Internet Protocol of TCP/IPv4" and click "Properties" to change IP. It will be offered to you to select as automatic receiving the IP addresses and addresses of DNS servers, and setup of these parameters manually.

4. Having configured receiving the addresses automatically, you will make the gateway the DHCP server. If you configure the addresses manually, your main gateway will be that IP address which you entered.

5. Having finished setup of the gateway, add routes of network by means of the command line. For her call open Start-up, click "Execute" and enter the cmd command into the appeared window.

6. You enter new routes according to the following scheme: route - p add [destination] [mask a subnet mask <] [> the gateway] [metric a metrics <] [if> the interface <]> where the destination – the IP address, the subnet mask is installed automatically - 255.255.255.255, the gateway will be the IP address corresponding to the router, the metrics should be the smallest, and you need to define the index of the interface, having entered the route print command in the command line. You can pass this parameter, and it will be automatically determined, thanks to the gateway address.
