Some external and built-in modems, depending on a way of data transmission, can change downloading speed. DSL and Dial-Up the modems connected to a telephone line belong to such modems, for example. Their speed of work can be changed manually.
Instruction
1. The modems working on DSL and Dial-Up technologies (A) can be configured via the Microsoft Windows OS standard tools. For this purpose it is enough to start the control panel from a system folder "My computer" or the Start menu. In the control panel switch to small or large icons and select the Phone and Modem icon, having double clicked on it. If you use the external modem and it has a key On/off, check its situation – the modem should is in an active status.
2. After application launch "Phone and the modem" on the screen will appear the small screen of device management for connection to the Internet. If you start the application for the first time, it will suggest you to enter the telephone code of your city. After input of the code or if you start the application not for the first time, go to the Modems tab. All will be listed in the list of available devices serviceable modems available at the moment. The modems connected to the computer will be noted by the port number (COM#) registered in the column "Connected to".
3. Left-click on the modem interesting you and press the Properties button located under the list of modems. On the screen of the computer one more special window displaying properties of the device will appear. Select the Modem tab. Here you will see the section under the name "Speed of Port for the Modem". Click the stated speed to cause a drop-down list of the available speeds specified in bits per second and select higher or maximum of offered speed.
4. After speed is selected, press the OK button in the current and previous window. That new parameters became effective, turn off all network connections, and then again be connected to them. If the drop-down menu with the list of possible speeds is unavailable to change, try to disconnect all networks and to reboot.
