In the spring of 2014 the ZyXEL company — the largest vendor of the network equipment - presented three new models of Keenetic routers at once. All three new are equipped with the new high-performance Mediatek-RT6856 processor, possesses two high-speed ports USB 2.0, the routers considerably expanding functionality. From each other models differ in data processing rate through wire ports and the built-in access point of WI-FI.
Preparation for setup of the router
For the correct setup of the router it is necessary to find out parameters of network connection and, first of all, the protocol of Internet access. For this purpose open the Network Connections window. If in addition to standard labels you see an icon of additional connection, then your provider uses the L2TP, PPTP or PPPoE protocol. What, it will be specified under a connection label.
If connection with the Internet is carried out under the L2TP, PPTP or PPPoE protocol, then the login and the password which are assigned by provider will be required. At connection through PPTP and L2TP it is necessary to specify besides the server of the operator or the IP address of assignment. That to define them, open "Properties" of your connection. Data should be rewritten, and a label — to delete.
Now open a context menu of a label "Connection on a local area network" and select the Properties item. Click for the line "Internet Protocol of Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and press the Properties button. In case of the dynamic IP address of the field will be empty. If IP static, then save all registered parameters. Note the Receive the IP Address Automatically and Receive the DNS Server Address Automatically points and confirm the choice, having clicked "OK".
It was necessary to find out whether your provider makes MAC filtering. Again open the menu of a label "Connection on a local area network". Select the Status item. In the opened window come on the Support tab and open "Details". Find the line "Physical address" and write the data specified in it.
Inclusion and setup of the router
Insert power supply adapter into the socket. Wait when the power on LED ceases to blink, and connect the router to the computer. For this purpose connect one of router connectors to the network adapter by means of an Ethernet-cable or configure connection on Wi‑Fi. The name of Wi‑Fi network and a security key are specified on the label of the router.
Start the Web browser and pass to address 192.168.1.1. The start page of a web configurator of Internet center will open. In new models of routers of ZyXEL of function of the NetFriend utility are transferred to a firmware. Click "Fast Setup". The master by means of whom you will be able to configure connection will be started.
On the screen the warning "Will appear the network cable is not connected". Insert an Ethernet-cable of provider into the WAN connector and click "Further". In the opened window it is required to answer a question of the program whether your provider registers the MAC addresses, and if necessary to specify the registered address.
When using the static IP address select Manual value and enter the IP address, the gateway IP address, a subnet mask and the DNS server in the respective fields. These parameters are assigned by provider. If the supplier of service did not assign to you the IP address, select Automatic value and press Next. If necessary to specify the DNS parameters, check "Set the Addresses of DNS Servers Manually" and in the field "DNS Server" enter the IP address.
Further it will be offered to you to enter the login and the password for connection to the Internet. If they are in the contract — fill the respective fields. For connection of VPN (L2TP or PPTP) it will be required to enter the IP address or the name of the VPN server. At connection of PPPoE the name of PPPoe service and a name of the hub PPPoE can be necessary (are provided by provider).
If all data are entered correctly, connection with the Internet will be established. The master will check existence of updates. At their existence click "Update". After downloading and installation of updates the device will be rebooted. On the screen the message "Will appear the Internet center is configured and established connection with the Internet". On it the work of the master is completed. More experienced users can pass into the web interface and configure additional functions.
