In many situations for creation of a local area network use the additional equipment. If the provider provides services of the DSL Internet, it is accepted to use the modem.

Instruction
1. For a start select the DSL modem which will satisfy to characteristics of your laptops and computers. Naturally, it is better to use the device with support of function of creation of wireless access point. Buy the selected modem.
2. Connect the equipment to the power supply network and turn on it. Connect a cable of connection to the Internet to DSL port. Find LAN (Ethernet) channel in the device and connect to it the laptop or the desktop computer, using the network cable.
3. Turn on the computer and start the browser (better to use IE, Opera or FireFox). Enter the DSL modem IP address into an address bar of the browser. You can learn the standard IP address, the login and the password for access to settings in the instruction to the device.
4. On the screen the main menu of settings of the modem will be displayed. Pass to the Internet Connection Setup menu. Configure contact with the server. You can find more detailed instruction on the official site of your provider.
5. For creation of wireless access point of Wi-fi open the Wireless Connection Setup menu. Set those parameters of a wireless network with which adapters of your laptops (phones) will work.
6. Save changes of settings. Reboot the DSL modem. If this function is absent in the menu, then disconnect it from the power supply network for several seconds.
7. Connect desktop computers to LAN (Ethernet) ports. Activate search of available wireless networks on laptops and be connected to your access point.
8. Perhaps, you will need to change parameters of network connection. Open settings of the network adapter of the laptop or the computer. Specify the static IP address different from the modem address in properties of the TCP/IP protocol by the last value.
9. Enter the modem IP address in The Preferred DNS Server and Main Gateway fields. Repeat settings for all other devices in network.
