Each device in the computer has the special code assigned for it by vendor. It is called the code of a copy of the device or id-device and consists of the unique cipher of vendor and model of the device. By means of it it is possible to learn the exact name of the equipment which the computer could not define and choose for him drivers.

- The computer with the Windows operating system.
Instruction
1. Click with the right key of a mouse the Computer icon in the Windows 7 operating system or "My computer" in Windows XP. In the appeared context menu click the Properties point.
2. On the screen the Properties of a System window will be displayed. Open in it the Equipment tab and press the Device manager button. Here the list of all equipment installed in the computer contains, information on its status, properties, the installed drivers is provided and there is an opportunity to change settings of each of devices.
3. The equipment in a device manager is separated into groups. Select group of the necessary device and open it doubleclick by the left key of a mouse. Click with the right mouse button the necessary device. Select the Properties item in the appeared context menu.
4. Open the Data tab in the appeared properties window of the selected equipment. From the drop-down list located on a tab select the Code of a Copy of the Device item. In a big field under a drop-down list you receive necessary id-devices.
5. On the Internet there are databases in which unique codes of vendors and their equipment are stored. If you looked for the code of a copy to define the unknown device, further you need to run for search of the name by means of one of such bases.
6. For this purpose open the website www.pcidatabase.com.
7. Copy the code of vendor of the device in the field of Vendor Search to define firm which released the equipment. Click Search. The code of vendor of the device contains in the first 4 digits separated by an interlinear dash from a fragment of the VEN id-device.
8. Copy the code of model in the field of Device Search to define the name, type and the version of the specific device. The code of model of the device contains in the first 4 digits after an interlinear dash of DEV following a fragment.
9. Click Search. Select from search results that which corresponds to the vendor determined by you.
