Ping is called operation on sending for the request server with the purpose to check whether it responds. Any additional information exchange at the same time it is not carried out. By means of a ping it is possible to check, in particular, whether there is this server and whether there is it in working order.
Instruction
1. Before carrying out a ping, open the console in the operating system. If you use Linux, start any of the emulators of the console which are available in a system. It can be, for example, Konsole, xterm. It is also possible to pass into one of the text consoles which are already started in a system, having keyed Control+Alt+F2. For return from such console back in graphic click Control+Alt+F5 combination (in some distribution kits - F7). In the Windows operating system click the Start-up button, select a menu item under the name "Execute" then enter the cmd command.
2. Make sure that the computer is connected to the Internet and that connection is active. The syntax of a command is identical to implementation of a ping in all operating systems. Gather it as follows: ping server. domain
3. At implementation of a ping in the way described above you recognize the server IP address by its domain name at the same time. If several such addresses are tied to a domain name, requests will be made to the first of them. In case you already know the IP address, use such command: ping NNN.NNN.NNN.NNN, where NNN.NNN.NNN.NNN - the IP address consisting of four blocks of digits.
4. If you ping the server in Windows OS, to the server for one operation only four request will be made, and then the program runtime will automatically stop. At start of a ping in Linux the requests will be made continuously every second until the user stops operation. For this purpose it is necessary to key Control+C.
5. If the ping to the IP address passes, and on a domain name - no, at provider DNS is faulty. Report about it in support desk. Before it check whether DNS on your computer is correctly configured.
