ICQ – the widespread application which was initially designed for fast text messaging. There are several versions of this program. Besides, the used protocol supports work with applications of third-party developers.

Instruction
1. Begin with the choice of the specific application. Practically any program similar to ICQ will be suitable for installation on the laptop working running the Windows operating system. The most widespread clients: ICQ Lite, QIP and Miranda.
2. It should be noted that there are many different assemblies of the last specified program. If you use rather weak laptop which is not differing in high performance select the least exacting application, for example QIP 2005.
3. Turn on the laptop and establish connection with the Internet. Open the website www.icq.com and click "Download ICQ". Wait for completion of loading of the installation file. Open it and execute installation of the program, having selected the necessary options and additions.
4. If you want to use other client, open the website www.qip.ru. Click "Download Qip". Perform the operations described in the previous step for program installation. For an exception of errors which can arise in the course of installation extract files from archive before their start.
5. For loading of the client of Miranda follow the link www.miranda-im.org/download. Select the version of the program, being guided by the name and type of the operating system which you use. Consider what for 64-bit OS needs to be used only the original client.
6. After completion of installation of the selected application open it, having double-clicked on a label on a desktop. Fill an authorization form, having specified your UIN and the password to it. Configure program settings. Usually users change only the graphic interface.
7. Possibilities of the Miranda application allow to change almost completely the program for convenient work with it. Do not forget that there are also other alternative clients, for example Trillian and SIM.
