How to learn e-mail server

Before configuring the program of e-mail on the computer, it is necessary to learn parameters of any given server and to define whether it enters the existing list of the servers supported by Windows.

Instruction

1. Learn a server name, having referred to the accompanying documentation of the Windows mail, to the Internet service provider or the network administrator. Pay attention: the Windows mail does not support any more the HTTP:// protocol which is used by such electronic mail services as Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo. And to learn whether use of the POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP servers is applicable for your OS, contact on the official site of the Microsoft company (www.microsoft.com).

2. To learn server options, log in to the account of your e-mail using Outlook Web App. Select consistently: "Parameters" – "Show all parameters" – "Account" – "My account" – "Parameters for access of POP, IMAP and SMTP" (they can be found in other menu of the account, on the Protocol Parameters page). However if in the section with parameters of these servers it is specified "Is unavailable", contact the Internet service provider or the network administrator for explanations.

3. Use, whenever possible, IMAP4 protocol as it as the e-mail server has more opportunities. At emergence of problems with definition of server options refer to the section of documentation "Input and Password" or to the person responsible for management of the account.

4. If the Windows mail did not manage to establish connection, specify authentication parameters. Select in the menu "Service" the Accounts tab, and then – the Accounts on the Internet point. Find the account and click "Properties". Go to the Servers tab and make sure that near the line "Use Safe Verification of the Password" the checkbox is not selected.

5. Learn a server name by means of which messages were transferred to you and, if necessary, you will be able to block connection, having contacted on the website http://who.is.
