At connection to the Internet most of users do not use a supplementary service of the static IP address in network. Of course, in most cases the static address is not necessary, but what to do if you have no static address, and it is required to be connected to your computer from the outside what requires knowledge of the IP address?
Instruction
1. First of all, for operating systems of Windows, open the Start menu, pass into "Control panel". Open the section "Network Connections", click the right mouse button on an icon of your connection to the Internet and select the Status item. In the opened window select the Support tab. Your IP address will be written in the corresponding line "IP address".
2. For Unix systems, open the terminal and execute the following command:
#sudo ifconfig
or on behalf of the administrator of root -
#ifconfig
Properties of all network interfaces which are available on the computer will be displayed. Network connection to the Internet will be called ppp0 or ppp1. Its IP will be written after the word inetaddr.
3. But it is possible to learn IP of the Internet thus not always - many providers mask real IP of the client. To learn the real IP from any operating system, pass on one of the following websites - http://2ip.ru, http://speed-tester.info, http://www.myip.ru. Your IP address will be brought to the web page. At the same time pay attention to a line of "Proxy": if opposite to it it appears "is used", then it means that your computer is connected to network via the intermediate proxy server, and it is impossible to learn real the IP computer. Most often such way of connection is applied in the organizations in a workplace.
4. In Unix systems it is possible to learn IP of the Internet also, having executed the following command in the console:
#wget - O - - q icanhazip.com
Your address will be displayed.
5. If you are connected to the Internet via the router, then open the control panel of the router and go to the Status tab. The external IP address will be specified in the corresponding line.
