If you want to lift a server role to the domain controller, then it is necessary to begin with planning of the structure considering network topology and requirements of the organization then already to start installation of Active Directory services. At the same time you can raise the domain controller not only in the new forest, but also a tree of domains or the child domain.
Instruction
1. Install the DNS server before raising domain controller roles. It will allow you to register certain services and to send inquiries to directories on the LDAP protocol.
2. Come into the Start menu and enter the dcpromo command in the section "Execute" then click "Ok" or Enter. As a result the Active Directory installation wizard should be started. In the first window you need to answer a number of questions concerning a server role. If you want to lift the domain controller in the forest, then select The Domain Controller in the New Domain item. Pass to the following item. Note the Create a New Domain Tree and Create the New Wood of Domain Trees point. Specify the server DNS address in the line "New Name of the Domain".
3. Pass to the "domain NetBIOS-name" page and specify the first part of a domain name in the respective field. Specify path in the database and to lines of logs. Press Next. Leave in the General Access to a System Volume point value without changes. If after that there is an inscription that there is no access to the DNS server, then turn into its settings and note a tick the line "Yes, Automatically to Install and Configure DNS". Update the installation wizard.
4. Prohibit or allow remote access to your server in the Windows NT 4.0 RAS server window then press Next. After that specify the password for start in the administration mode. Further proceed to instructions of the master and complete process of a raising of the controller of the domain. Restart the computer that settings became effective.
5. Configure the server for a new tree of domains or the child domain. For increase in a role of the controller start the Active Directory installation wizard and proceed the above instruction, except for one moment. Instead of the Create the New Wood point select "Place a new domain tree in the forest" or "Create the new child domain in a domain tree", respectively.
