The maximum size of image which can be delivered as an avatar in the account to VKontakte is 200*500 pixels. Loading of the image of the bigger size is senseless – it all the same in proportion will be entered in this framework.

Instruction
1. Open the Adobe Photoshop program and create the new document. At once set the necessary width in 200px and height 500px. Set permission more, and here the bitnost of a color mode not and is important, can leave it by default 8 bits.
2. Begin with a background. You can just fill in it in color, using the Filling tool on the panel at the left, or having applied "Gradient". In this case as the main background the picture was used. That it was not distorted at description, clamp Ctrl and pull for a corner, enlarging or reducing the image to the necessary size.
3. Insert a photo which as much as possible reflects your entity or the one whom you want to appear before visitors of the page. After all on an avatar will judge you first of all. If you do not want to put the photo, then against the background of it is possible to write your nickname. In this case it is worth playing with the text – use additional fonts, change transparency and extent of filling, property of the layer. In this case effects of a shadow and internal luminescence were used, and in imposing of a layer the shading is selected.
4. Add art effects by means of brushes. You can use standard or find sets on the specialized websites. Before use of a brush create a new layer, having clicked Shift+Ctrl+N.
5. Create one more layer to add a frame. Then select the Rectangular Selection tool and with its help select not all picture, and having receded from edges on couple of millimeters. Click Shift+Ctrl+I, selection is inverted. Fill in it white, and in a way of imposing install "Soft light".
6. If you want to receive the qualitative image, work in the professional graphics editor. If you are not able to use it, then open the photo or the picture in Paint and cut off approximately so that the image fitted into the required framework. The inconvenience of the built-in editor that precisely to set the required sizes at you will not turn out.
