How to organize ftp the server

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) – the data transfer protocol allowing to be connected to servers, to browse and download information which is stored on them. This protocol appeared long before usual to all Internet users of HTTP, but still did not lose the relevance. It is rather simple to create the ftp-server, it can be organized even on the basis of the normal computer.

Instruction

1. The FTP protocol is very convenient for viewing file structure of the remote computer, allows to find the necessary files rather easily. Not casually many "heavy" programs and disk images often suggest to download on ftp. If you want to share with someone the files, you can create own ftp-server.

2. It is the simplest to create such server on the basis of 7 components which are available in Windows. The only condition – you should have a setup disk as by default the ftp-server at the OS installation is not put. Insert a disk into the disk drive, close the appeared window. Open: "Start-up" - "Control panel" - "Programs and components". The window will open, select "Inclusion or shutdown of the Windows components".

3. Find "IIS Services" in the next opened window, expand this list. In it expand the FTP Server list. Note a tick the FTP Service point. Now find the Control Facilities Website list in already mentioned IIS Services list. Expand it, note a tick the Console of Management of IIS point and click "OK". Windows will install the selected components.

4. Now configure the installed ftp-server. Open: "Control panel" - "A system and safety" - "Administration" - "Control of the computer". In the opened window open the Services and Applications group and open "The manager of IIS services". In the Connections window select the Websites folder. On the right, in the Actions window, click on "Add the FTP website".

5. In the opened Data on the Website window enter the name of the created website and its arrangement. By default its path: С: inetpubftproot. Click "Further". Specify parameters of a binding and SSL in the following window. Binding: "All free", port 21. Section SSL - "Without SSL". Click "Further", in the following window touch nothing, just click "Is ready". The website is created.

6. Now configure Windows firewall. Open: "Control panel" - "A system and safety" - "Windows Firewall" - "Additional parameters". Find "Rules for the entering connections" and activate "the FTP server (incoming traffic)" and "FTP Server Passive (FTP Passive Traffic-In)". You opened 21 ports for incoming connections and specified the range of ports 1023-65535 for the passive mode.

7. Find the section "Rules for Outgoing Connection", activate "FTP Server (FTP Traffic-Out)". You opened the 20th port for outbound connections. Now any user can be connected to your IP address to the ftp-server created by you, browse and download the files which are on it. If desired you can configure access by the password, having created new users in the section "Local Users and Groups".
