The source code of absolute majority of pages on the Internet is written in the HTML language (HyperText Markup Language - "hypertext markup language"). It represents a set of instructions ("tags") which contain information on appearance and arrangement of each element of the page. Besides, there is a group of tags which belong not to specific elements, and to all page in general. The META tag also belongs to this group.
Instruction
1. At first we will specify how these metatags look and where exactly they should be inserted. Metatags are under construction by the same rules, as any other tags of the HTML language - the tag a bracket opens <and it is closed by a set of icons: space, slash and bracket ""/>"". Except the name of the tag in brackets additional information which in this language is called tag "attributes" can be placed. For the META tags one of attributes is obligatory - content, and from other three only the name attribute is rather often used. Example of the simple metatag: <meta name= "" keywords"" content= "" metatags, HTML""/> Here two attributes - name and content. The value of the name attribute of this metatag (keywords) means that in the content attribute keywords under which search engines should classify page contents are placed. It is necessary to place metatags in a heading part of the source code of the page, that is in the block which begins the <head> tag and ends with the tag </head>. Usually they are placed in this block right after the <title> tag which contains a page window title, but this rule is not obligatory.
2. Having specified as where it is necessary to place, it is possible to pass to a practical part of the procedure. At first open the source code of the page intended for placement of metatags. If you have an opportunity to edit by means of the editor of pages from structure of a management system of the website, having opened necessary, switch the editor from the WYSIWYG mode (What You See Is What You Get - "that you see, you will receive") to a HTML-code editing mode. If you do not use a management system - download the file of the page to yourself in the computer and open in the normal text editor.
3. Now it is necessary to find the heading block in the source code and to place inside its your metatags. This block is placed almost at the very beginning of the page. You will not be mistaken if you look for a line"" </head>"" (without quotes) and will insert the metatags just before this tag.
4. Now it will be necessary only to save the page with the added metatags. If you did not use the editor of pages, and downloaded the file from the server - begin to rock back, having replaced old new.
